Music

Music is a vibrant and integral part of worship and the FCC community. With four vocal choirs, a bell choir, children’s choir, music and drama for children/youth, a band, special “pop-up” groups, stellar soloists, regional and national guest artists, there’s truly something for everyone!

Our musicians strive to complement and enhance the worship experience, leading the congregation in song, praise, reflection, and spiritual expression. Experience is helpful but auditions are not required. FCC music ministries are led by a gifted team of musicians who are active professionally in the community and the world.

Chancel Choir

Music-ChancelChoir2Chancel Choir is FCC’s flagship ensemble, and sings in most Sunday morning services and special services through out the program year (September to June). The choir’s primary role is to complement each service by leading the congregation in song and spiritual expression.  Our repertoire spans classical, gospel, jazz, contemporary, spirituals, world music, Taize, choral/orchestral masterworks and more!

We’re always happy to welcome new singers that can carry a tune (high school through adult). No formal audition, but you will be asked to sing for the director to hear range. Chancel Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings in the Wheeler Room from 7:00-8:15 p.m.

Vocal Ensemble

Vocal Ensemble is a small group of singers (and occasionally instrumentalists) who rehearse after worship services many Sunday mornings from approximately 11:00-11:45 a.m. in the sanctuary. Ensemble presents anthems periodically in Sunday worship services, Christmas Eve early service, and joins with Chancel Choir to form the Festival Choir for large-scale, special services. Style tends to be contemporary and no audition is required (singing/playing experience is helpful).

Joyful Noise

JoyfulMusical15aJoyful Noise Children’s Choir welcomes all interested singers ages 6-12. Joyful Noise rehearses most Sunday mornings during worship service (approx. 10:20-11:15 am) in the chapel with leaders Debi Noel and Jennifer Sellers.

Third Sunday Choir

Music-ThirdSundayChoir3All interested singers are invited to this once-a-month all comer’s choir. This is a great opportunity for singers who are not able to commit to a weekly choir, but are interested in singing occasionally in worship. We meet the third Sunday of each month at 9:00 am in the sanctuary to learn a simple song that will be sung during that day’s worship service.

Sunday, November 19 at 9:00 a.m. gather in the sanctuary to learn a beautiful new arrangement of “For the Fruit of All Creation”.

Festival Choir

Music-SchubertGroupPhotoFestival Choir is our largest vocal group, combining all choral ensembles and singers who are interested in “special occasions.” Recent projects have included Vivaldi’s Gloria, Schubert’s Mass in G, selections from Faure’s Requiem (all accompanied by chamber orchestra), Service of Lessons and Carols during Advent, Taize style services with instrumentalists, and most recently a special Tenebrae service, collaborating with guest artists Siri Vik, Nathan Bick, Jeralee Salaets and Kathryn Brunhaver. Festival Choir typically rehearses for six weeks prior to Advent and Holy Week on Wednesdays from 7-7:45 pm and Sundays from 11-11:45 am. Another excellent opportunity for those who love to sing, but can’t commit to a regular choir!

Bell Choir

Music-BellChoirBell Choir rehearses most Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:15 pm in the sanctuary balcony from September through June. We play in the worship service about once a month and have lots of fun together. This is a great way to get involved in the music program; music experience is helpful but not necessary, and new ringers are encouraged. Bell Choir can be an “entry level” opportunity for anyone who’s always wanted to be part of a music group, as well as a welcome place for more experienced musicians. The group is seeking ringers from high school age and up who would like to be part of an engaging voice in our worship.

FCC House Band

Photo of House BandThe House Band is a group of singers and instrumentalists who play mostly by ear, will rehearse on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month in the Wheeler room at 5:30 p.m., with coaching from Vicki Brabham. Bring your instrument and come jam! New members encouraged.
