Sunday School Teacher and Childcare Volunteer Recruitment for 2010-2011
It is that time once again to begin to prepare for next year’s Sunday morning education classes and childcare areas.  We are looking for dedicated, warm, creative individuals to share their time with our Sunday school children, youth, and childcare children for an hour each week, teaching scriptures and forming lasting relationships. 

Our Sunday school program uses an online curriculum which guides you through a lesson each week.  We use “teaching teams” at each grade level to provide for flexible scheduling. 

Sunday morning childcare volunteers are asked to commit to one Sunday a month, where you will again be teamed up with other youth and adults in playing, reading and enjoying getting to know our youngest generations.

Some Sunday morning and yearly activities include: scripture reading, exploration through the arts, discussion, reflection, prayer, and service projects within our church community, worship service and the community at large.  It is our goal as a church community to assist families in and with the spiritual development of their children and youth in an open, safe, caring and respectful manner..  Contact: Robin Francisco, 541-345-8741.

• Nursery Care (ages Birth-Two) in Room A downstairs, Supervisor: Stephanie Marquez.
  
  
• Pre K - K (ages 3-5) in Room B downstairs, teachers are Bob Bury, Lynne Lucas and Tuyen Bolton.
  
  
• Grades 1st - 3rd (ages 6-8) in 1st-3rd Grade Room upstairs, teachers are Laura Illig, Sharon Newton and Wes Service.
  
  
• Grades 4th - 6th (ages 9-11) in 4th-6th Grade Room upstairs, teachers are Namihira Bolton, and Annie Tarter.
  
  
• Grades 7th-12th (ages 12-18)in Sojourners Room upstairs,  teachers are Pete Petersen, Kwasi Diehl and Melanie Oommen.

During the worship service at 10:00 a.m., children from infants through kindergarten are cared for on the lower level.  We offer two different areas: Nursery Care, Room A, (ages birth-2, Supervisor Stephanie Marquez) and Preschool Care, Room Sunroom, (ages 3-5, Supervisor Heidi Dobratz).  Volunteers from our church families help supervise the children.

Some activities that take place during this time include imaginative play, playtime on gym equipment (older children), story time, and crafts.   Older children (1st grade and up) join their family as part of the worshipping community.  Activity clipboards and crayon bags are available in the narthex each week and twice a month a children’s moment is included in worship.  We believe that children enhance worship and benefit from it.  From participation in the worship service and partaking of the sacraments, we think children learn tradition, values and a sense of how to worship.
