Spiritual Direction is a confidential relationship with a trained guide, to reflect on our spiritual journey and help us become more aware of the presence and activity of the Holy in our lives.
What is Spiritual Direction? Throughout human history, and as far back as the beginning of the church, Spiritual Directors/Spiritual Companions have helped people explore a closer relationship with God. There is no area of human life in which God is uninterested, no corner of it to which God is not present, and therefore no aspect of life which would be a foreign or inappropriate matter in a conversation with a Spiritual Director. In the midst of a busy life, many people find it difficult to notice God’s action in their daily affairs. Yet, at the deepest level, all of us long for a more conscious experience of God’s presence. Office Hours for Spiritual Director Suzanne Congdon, Spiritual Director, will be offering office hours at the church beginning Monday, February 6 from 11-2. If you would like a companion on your spiritual journey or just a short chat to notice how God is working in your life, Suzanne will be available. Suzanne can be reached at 541-343-0817 or scongdon12@comcast.net.. Reasons You Might Seek Spiritual Direction

The Directee invites the Director/Companion to accompany them on their spiritual journey; together they participate in the Spirit’s direction. In the sanctuary of safe haven, a Directee has a Director/Companion who, as a present witness, assists them in navigating the waters of life, leaning toward the inner water of Spirit rather than the outer world of the circus. This invitation for companionship can be one time or ongoing, being mutually decided upon by both the Directee and the Director/Companion.
Suzanne Congdon offers Spiritual Direction at First Congregational UCC. She was trained at Shalom Center in Mt. Angel, Oregon. For more information and to make an appointment, please call Suzanne at 541-343-0817. Fees are negotiated at the time of meeting on a case by case basis, with no one being turned away.
“Call it God, the sacred, the holy, the higher power--if you are seeking a closer relationship with this mystery, then consider working with a Spiritual Director. In one on one conversations, a Director can help you discover how God is touching your life. Although the practice is called “direction,” in my experience it was more of a companionship where Suzanne asked questions, prayed and laughed with me, and truly helped me sort through my confusion and reach clarity about how God is touching me. Perhaps I could have figured this out by myself, but I did it with Suzanne and for that I am grateful.” - Laurie Power
