Highlighting a Volunteer Need: Night Shift

Some people can sleep just about anywhere, under any circumstances. Are you one of these people? We have the job for you! You would be one of two people who stay, and sleep, overnight. Your duties include making sure the lights are out, ovens turned off, hot water urn unplugged and guests safe and warm. We have seven shifts to fill (a shift is from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.): Sat. Feb. 17/Mon. Feb. 19.

Additional openings:

– 10 children’s slots     – 2 night shift slots     -1 afternoon van driver slot

– 1 breakfast crew slots      – 4 clean up after breakfast slot

Our two week interfaith shelter at First Congregational Church takes place from February 12 – 26. This FCC tradition of hospitality couldn’t exist without many dozens of volunteers. Sharing a meal with a family, rocking a newborn baby to sleep and helping a grade school child with an art project, are among the small but significant ways volunteers contribute to the overall health and well being of our overnight shelter guests.

We also need people to make food contributions: eggs, beef stew meat, and cans of pinto beans, tomato paste and tomato sauce are among the items our cooks need to prepare 14 hot breakfasts and dinners for about 35 people.
