Housing Initiative Updates: Building, Renovating, Van and Squash!

Tiny Houses under construction

Fall has been a time of construction and growth for the FCC Housing Initiative and our partners. Ground was broken this summer for Square One’s Emerald Village Eugene (EVE) project and this tiny home community is well on it’s way to being a reality.

The St. Vincent de Paul Youth House, across from the Post Office on south Willamette, is well on track to be ready to house high school youth who are homeless before spring.

The Housing Initiative contributed funds to put in a new engine and other repairs on a van for Community Supported Shelters to use to transport the Rest Stop residents to community service projects, and the Looking Glass Station 7 back yard is beautiful, including bountiful squash growing.

The backyard of Station 7 green and bountiful.

The fruits of funds and labor and love are evident in so many places we look, and we give thanks that the God of Love and Justice continues to call us into service so that with our larger community we can continue to work to ensure that everyone in our community has a safe and healthy place to call home.

And our Housing Initiative Leadership team continues to work tirelessly on the dream of being able to use our property for transitional housing for families. We continue to meet and work with the City of Eugene and St. Vincent de Paul to develop a plan to meet everyone’s needs and that fits with city requirements. This is very complicated and time consuming, but our HI Leadership Team is uniquely suited with great skills, abilities and faith to travel this path. We will keep you posted!

In the meantime, anyone interested in finding out how you can join in the HI work can contact John Hudspeth or Pastor Melanie.
