The United Church of Christ
Our Eugene church family has a heritage reaching back to the earliest days of our nation. The forebears of our denominational connection, the United Church of Christ (UCC), include the Pilgrims, those independent free thinkers who sought spiritual freedom. Formed out of a merger in 1957 between the Congregational-Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church in America, the 5,600 congregations of the UCC are known for our legacy of involvement in ministries of compassion, advocacy, and social justice. Dedication to progressive principles led our denominational ancestors to oppose slavery and form the first anti-slavery society in America with multiracial leadership. Our history also includes the ordination of the first African American pastor, the first woman minister, and the first openly gay minister. The UCC was the first major multiracial denomination to elect an African American as denominational president. The UCC was also the first to affirm marriage rights for non-heterosexual couples. We joined with our United Church of Christ family and our Mission: 1 focus on hunger was generative beyond our imaginings! In our congregation alone...
We prayed together, invited friends, learned together, gave together, and made a positive difference. Many thanks to our moderator Mary Nyquist Koons and Mission Committee Chair Brenda Kame'enui for their outstanding leadership for Mission: 1. Many thanks to this congregation for responding with generosity and great love. |

Daily Devotionals from ucc.org
I have read and used a lot of daily devotional resources over the years, but the most consistently well-written and insightful daily devotional resource I have ever used is the one available on the United Church of Christ website. If you haven’t already checked out the wonder of ucc.org, here’s your excuse: sign up for daily devotionals. All you have to do is go to http://www.ucc.org/feed-your-spirit/daily-devotional/. It’s easy to subscribe to have these thoughtful, progressive, well-written reflections sent daily to your email. The UCC daily devotionals are written by some of the best thinkers and writers in our denomination. I deeply appreciate this resource from the United Church of Christ! And there are many other treasures to discover on ucc.org.
