There are eight standing committees which plan, coordinate, evaluate ministries, mission, programs, and services.
The committees also support and recruit leadership for a wide variety of ministry, mission, and working small groups.There is no nominating process for committees or terms of office. Anyone is welcome to serve on a committee of their choice for as long as that person feels a passion for the work. The standing committees, and their By-Laws description are:
Family Ministries Committee
will plan, coordinate and oversee policies, programs, resources, and personnel to provide a comprehensive ministry which includes education for all ages, intergenerational opportunities for spiritual development, and fellowship events. Usually meets the third Thursday of the month at 12:00 p.m.
Justice and Witness Ministries Committee
will be responsible for the Church’s covenant with the UCC through the Conference, as well as other ecumenical partnerships. The Committee shall initiate and coordinate activities of social concern which promote Christian compassion and justice. The Committee shall recommend a budget and calendar of special mission offerings to the Board. Usually meets the third Thurdsay of the month at 6:00 p.m.
Stewardship Committee
shall educate the Church about the meaning of Christian stewardship, as well as plan and coordinate an annual enlistment of financial pledges. Meets as needed during the campaign (Sept.-Dec.).
Parish Life Committee
is responsible for creating opportunities for persons to actively participate in the Church communal life. The Committee will coordinate and support programs in membership recruitment, fellowship, hospitality, caregiving, service projects, relational and support groups. The Committee oversees a system of volunteer recruitment, training, support, coordination, and recognition. Usually meets the third Wednesday of the month at 5:15 p.m.
Worship Committee
will work with the Ministers in guiding, supporting, and coordinating the worship, sacramental, and music programs of the Church. The Committee shall recommend policy regarding use of the sanctuary and instruments. Usually meets th second Thursday of the month at 5:00 p.m.
Facilities Management Committee
is responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the Church building, grounds, furnishings, equipment, and art. The Committee makes recommendations to the Church Board on matters related to facilities use and budget, capital improvements, insurance, technical and aesthetic design." Usually meets once a month on a Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.
Pastoral Relations Committee
supports and maintains an open relationship between the Ministers and members of the Congregation. Acting within an atmosphere of confidentiality, the Committee serves as support group for the Ministers and assists in developing solutions in areas of conflict involving the Ministers.
Preschool Committee
is responsible for overseeing the Preschool. The Preschool shall ordinarily be financially self-supporting and will provide a scholarship program. The Preschool shall be open to the community, but children of First Congregational members will be given priority in registration. The Preschool shall not teach religious doctrine. Preschool Committee members need not be active in the Church. Usually meets the last Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m.
